At Home on the Farm
Katie works very long weeks with passion, tenacity, and love for what she is doing. This farm is her baby.
We have a huge perennial fruit garden but most are still in their early years, we have raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, hardy kiwi, plums, prune plums, cherries, nanking cherries, josta berries, figs, honey berries, apricots, apples, pears, peaches, grapes, strawberries, and quince. We have Jerusalem artichokes and walking onions and plant green beans and tomatoes to pressure can. We have clematis vines and lilies that are glorious! Lilies are Katie’s favorite… she just wishes they lasted longer.
We eat a lot of eggs around here! Katie pickle’s them and makes them every way possible. Quail eggs have more vitamins than chicken eggs, and people that are allergic to chicken eggs can usually eat quail eggs! We also process the extra males for meat. We invested in a plucking machine so we are able to leave the skin on which is a game changer in taste.
“I know it may freak some people out but these birds are talked to, told how pretty they are, thanked every day for their eggs and loved from hatch until the end. I know exactly what they eat and how they live, I think that makes it beautiful in a way, and I am very proud to help provide this opportunity to be self sustainable to others.“
