These are large birds that regularly reach 14-15 oz by 10 weeks on most colors with the smallest size of our breeders being 13oz, each bird is weighed prior to sorting them into their breeding groupos and we are working on getting all the colors even larger yet, they are great for both meat and eggs.
Jumbo refers to the size of the birds, some birds lay larger eggs than others but will absolutely be from Jumbo Size Birds. Jumbo Coturnix quail mature quickly and begin laying eggs at around 6-8 weeks of age. They can lay around 300 eggs per year. This listing is for a mix of those colors, we are not selling custom requests for specific colors or custom sized quantities on orders at this time. Due to availability and demand please limit your purchase to 2 of this size order, thank you for understanding. Shipping times are currently running a few days, sometimes sooner, you will get an email with your tracking number to watch for your order as soon as the label is purchased.
The eggs will be shipped in foam shippers for the best possible protection during shipping, prices include the expense of the foam shippers which is a large portion of the cost of shipping. We only ship using USPS Priority Mail Shipping. Please read and agree to our purchasing policy page prior to purchasing, thank you for understanding.
Please note that buying shipped eggs for hatching is a gamble and a risk you are accepting by purchasing. Please understand that the industry average hatch rate for shipped eggs in 50%, however you could have any were from as low as 0% to as high as a 100% hatch, because we can not control what happens during shipping, storing or incubating we do not offer a hatch rate guarantee. Any Extra or Free eggs provided are not to be considered part of your hatch rate.
****Please know that especially with shipped eggs, lack of development does NOT equal infertility. The eggs that leave our farm are fertilized, what happens after they leave here is unpredictable. Because of Potential damage that can occur during shipping such as if it was dropped, shaken or left in extreme temperatures eggs will not develop which would appear the exact same as an infertile egg. For example, you can't hatch a scrambled egg, an egg that was frozen or that fried from sitting in the heat. Please do not falsely claim eggs are infertile, there are too many variables with shipping, storing and incubation, you can not take apart a shipped egg after any length of incubation and correctly distinguish infertility from damage.
Because of these factors, we cannot guarantee that your eggs will hatch, we do not offer a hatch rate guarantee, we do not offer refunds, returns or replacements. We do not file claims with the post office for late shipments, they provide insurance on priority mail if they damage your package. If that does happen please file a claim with the post office, we ship on time and package as best we possibly can to survive the trip. Once the eggs leave our hands we can not control what happens at any point afterwards. We want very much for you to be successful but things can and do occasionally happen that are out of our control. Please understand prior to purchasing and do not purchase if you do not agree. We thank you for understanding the risk and not purchasing if you do not agree with this.****
Recommendations for Resting & Incubating:
Coturnix quail are hardy birds that require minimal care and space, they convert feed to eggs efficiently and begin to lay eggs as early as 6 - 8 weeks of age. Coturnix quail eggs are smaller than chicken eggs but are considered a delicacy in many parts of the world. Quail eggs are a healthy and less allergenic alternative to chicken eggs and they are higher in B12, Iron and protein.
- Our eggs are shipped unwashed, so the bloom remains intact and protects the eggs from outside bacteria.
- Once eggs arrive please keep the pointy end down while resting and then set in the incubator after you receive the eggs within 12 to 24 hours of coming to room temperature and resting. Resting is really important as it helps the eggs recover from the movement and temperature changes they undergo during shipping. For hot weather shipping only, we suggest you put the eggs directly into the incubator but do not start turning for 12 hours to let them rest then turn as usual.
- We highly recommend a secondary hygrometer/thermometer in the incubator to make sure it is reading correctly. Have your incubator up and running with the humidity and temperature stabilized prior to setting your eggs.
- We do understand how exciting it is to see the development inside the egg, however we do not recommend candling because with all that handling and with the constant fluctuations in humidity, temp etc. it can absolutely negatively affect hatch rate.
- We use and recommend using the Hatching Time CT SH Incubator which recommends temperatures and humidity specific to their products. For general non commercial incubators these are our suggestions but please refer to your own incubator manual for their official guidelines as they all differ somewhat. Set temperature at 99.5 degrees F and humidity of 45% for days 1 - 14 and then raise to 55-60% at lockdown when you stop turning then get ready for babies in about 3 days.
About Us
We are a small family/hobby farm, this is something we do because we love it, we still work our normal full time jobs as well but we take great pride in providing quality hatching eggs. We do everything we can to ensure you are successful either getting started with quail or adding to your flock including:
- We are NPIP Certified and take our biosecurity seriously. Our NPIP number is 34-775
- Replace breeders every 12 months to ensure they don’t lose fertility with age, males are replaced more often to make sure they are doing their jobs servicing the ladies.
- We have our birds in correct male to female ratios to make sure they are getting fertilized without being overbred.
- Wait 3 weeks from when they start laying to make sure egg shape and size have stabilized, have gotten into the rhythm of mating and laying and are consistently fertilized.
- Use quality feed and supplements to ensure proper diet to have healthy birds and good hatch rates.
- We regularly hatch from our own birds frequently for a way to be self-sustainable, we enjoy quail for meat and eggs for our family and also to make sure you are getting high quality, healthy and fertile hatching eggs. We are very aware of their fertility and our own hatch rates using good quality Hatching Time incubators.
- We ship as soon as possible and never ever send out eggs older than 3 days, most days they are not even a full day old when we ship.
We have awesome and thoughtful feedback from many customers who have had fantastic hatch rates and are very happy with how we pack in foam and how nice our eggs are.
Please consider leaving positive feedback, we are a small family/hobby farm and we would greatly appreciate your support!
Thank you so much for looking and we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
Sincerely,
Katie & Family
